Project ESTÚDIOS is the result of a collaboration between Mundo Perfeito and Teatro Maria Matos, with the ambition of being an annual moment of meeting between portuguese and international performing artists, of experimenting and risking. Every year this project reinvents itself, assuming a different form and involving different artists.
In 2009, ESTÚDIOS joined three portuguese and four brazilian, all of them performing artists that are recognised by the ability of developing their own language and artistic paths. Last summer, these seven artists were together to explore collaborations and be open to each others propositions. During three weekends of July, this group of artists premiered three different new performances. Each performance created in just one week. They were three performances on the wire, boosted by the energy of the unexpected. In a few days, we wrote, read, experimented, translated, rehearsed and mixed the portuguese and brazilian accent. We constructed, with every mystery of the first dates, three performances like they were promises.

First Show
Always
"In a week, we imagined that we have been locked during three years inside Teatro Maria Matos, that we have became a family isolated from the rest of the world, that one of the artist died and that the others had a daughter. We imagined the performance that we would have created if we had three years instead of one week to do it."
Second Show
Pedro looks for Inês
“After the work with the seven, during the first wee, we dedicate to meeting at two. Duos that can happen in dialoguing spaces: something and nothing, reality and fiction, or Portugal and Brazil. Duos that can be trios or solos, but are always a meeting, a search, a tryout. This is what we believe that is interesting to work during this week, but we also can change our minds and try something else.”
Third Show
Bobby Sands will die Thatcher assassin
"We created three performances during three weeks. We spend a lot of time speaking about the time we had and the time we didn’t have. In this last performance of project Estúdios, we mix discoveries from the past with messages for the future. We speak, with our one words and those of authors from other times, about how things end and about what we whish would be about to start. In the end, we put this performance in a box and we bury it under the stage of Teatro Maria Matos so that someone can find it 100 years from now."
